Lease ends, the furniture stays — until we get there

Every May and June, Chicago's student neighborhoods empty out all at once, and the curbs fill with the furniture nobody wants to move: the hand-me-down couch, the mattresses, the IKEA desks, the mini-fridge. We work that rush across all five campuses — UChicago in Hyde Park, DePaul in Lincoln Park, Loyola in Rogers Park, Northwestern in Evanston, and UIC near the Near West Side — clearing apartments, shared units, and dorm furniture fast. The vintage walk-up carry is included in the flat price, the quote comes from a photo, and one flat number for the whole unit is easy to split between roommates (the 10%-off-5+-items helps when everyone's stuff goes together). Usable furniture is donated, and there's no Illinois sales tax on the service.
